About JokeStack
What is JokeStack?
JokeStack is an app for stand-up comedians and the people who run their shows. You write and organize your jokes, build setlists, perform from your phone in live mode, and find or run open mics.
Who is JokeStack for?
Stand-up comedians, improvisers and storytellers at any level, and hosts who organize open mics and comedy nights.
Is JokeStack free?
Yes, it's currently free. If paid features ever appear, using them will need your separate agreement.
Do I need to install anything?
No. JokeStack works in your phone's or computer's browser, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app.
How do I find an open mic with JokeStack?
Open the list of open mics by city, or browse events in the app. Each event shows its date, venue and how to sign up.
Who owns the jokes I write in JokeStack?
You do. We don't claim rights to your material, and we don't sell it or make it available for training AI models without your separate, voluntary consent.
Your material
What's a bit?
One joke or routine: its text, how long it runs, its category and status. Everything in Material is built from bits.
What are categories and statuses?
Two ways of sorting the same bits into columns. Categories are topics you choose. Statuses say how ready a bit is. Drag a card between columns to change it, and use the filter icon to hide some.
How do I keep an older version?
When you edit a bit, choose to save it as a new version. The earlier text stays in its history, so nothing you cut is gone for good.
How do I build a setlist?
In a project, open Setlists and add bits to a column. Drag them into order, and the total length adds itself up.
What's live mode?
It shows your set on stage: your lines in large type, a timer and big buttons. It works with no signal, and can save the set as a performance afterwards.
Does it work with no signal?
Yes. You can write and edit your material offline, and it syncs when you're back online. Adding images and sounds, and playing them, needs a connection.
How much can I store?
100 MB of images and sounds, and up to 10 MB per file. Removing one from a bit doesn't free the space: delete the file in Settings, where you can also ask for more.
Events and open mics
How do I sign up for an event?
Open the event and sign up. Depending on the organizer, you get a place straight away or wait to be accepted, and a full event may have a waitlist. Your status shows on the event's page.
How do I run an event?
Tap New event and fill in the steps. On your event's page you can then review signups, share a running order and manage everything else.
What does a private event mean?
Only people you invite can see it. It doesn't appear in the event list, and you can change this later under Edit.
Can someone help me run an event?
Yes. Add them as a co-host by username and choose what they can do, such as signups or the running order.
How does the running order work?
Turn it on for your event, add performers, the host and breaks, and drag them into order. Times add themselves up, and you can run the show from it live, even with no signal once it's been opened.
How does audience feedback work?
Turn it on for your event, and print or show the QR code. People give feedback anonymously, with no account.
Who can see my contact details?
Never your public profile. Each event has switches for whether its co-hosts and accepted people can see your email or phone.
